The Price of Beauty

My mom and I watched the movie Little Women together last night, and it really spoke to us. In one scene Joe cuts short her long, brunette hair and sells it so her mom can afford a train ticket to see her sick dad.

Joe gave away the very thing that made her beautiful on the outside because she loved her family so much. That is real inner beauty!

Have you sacrificed things for others?

  1. Hi Ruby! This is Brigit! I like your new blog! I once cut 12 inches of my hair off to help kids with cancer. Even though I was kinda sad because my hair was too short, I was happy to be able to do something for girls that have cancer.

    See you Weds at school!

  2. If you needed to Ruby, you would do the same for your Mom. Your thoughtful, giving heart is one of the many things that makes you so beautiful. You are beautiful to me, but more important have the inward beauty that pleases God : )

  3. This is one of my favorite movies by far. I grew up with three sisters of my own and was raised by my mom. So i see a lot of my family in that story. I don't think i have ever scarified that much, however i did grow up in a family that couldn't afford the newest clothes. So we shopped only at thrift stores, which wasn't a big deal to me. Yeah it was hard to not have all the new stuff when everyone else did. However i knew my mom was doing the best that she could and was glad to have any clothes at all. And even as a teenager i knew that the clothes were not what made me who i was, it was what was on the inside that made me who i was. So instead of spending time and money on new clothes I spent my time in God's word, beautifying my heart.
